Official release of royal swans - June 24, 2017

The City of Ottawa will officially release the Royal Swans onto the Rideau River on Saturday, June 24, 2017. It is also the 50th anniversary of the original six pairs of Mute (Royal) swans gifted to the City of Ottawa by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in celebration of Canada’s Centennial year in 1967.

Time: Bring your own picnic in the park with old-fashion activities: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Swan Release: 1 p.m.
Place: Brantwood Park, end of Clegg Street (off Main Street)

Overnight Road Closure on Colonel By Drive - June 8/June 9

The 2016-2017 phase of repair work on the walls of the Rideau Canal in downtown Ottawa is nearly complete. As part of the final steps of the repair work, the contractor will be removing fences and additional safety measures from around the construction site. Beginning at approximately 9:00 pm on June 8, the barriers along the southbound lane of Colonel By Drive will be removed. A signed detour route will be in place as this work will require the overnight closure of Colonel By Drive.

Main Street road closure from Clegg to Riverdale - June 10, 2017

Main Street, from Clegg Street to Riverdale Avenue, will be completely closed to traffic (northbound and southbound directions) on Saturday, June 10, from 6 am to 10 pm for the placement of the top lift of asphalt. In case of rain, this closure will be postponed to Saturday, June 24. The closure is required for the safe paving of the top lift of asphalt in this narrow section of Main Street. As part of this closure, the Riverdale Avenue intersection will be completely closed to traffic for paving from 6 am to 10 am. Local detours for local traffic will be in place.
