City of Ottawa requesting proposals on public artwork for Main Street

The City of Ottawa invites artists to submit proposals to develop, design and install exterior public artwork on Main Street in the neighbourhood of Old Ottawa East. This call to artists is open to professional artists who are Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status. Artists may submit a proposal individually or as a team.

The total budget for this commission is $220,000 plus HST. The commission budget must include all costs required to design, fabricate, store, transport and install the public art, as well as any travel expenses incurred by the artist or artist team.Installation of the artwork will take place between Fall 2016 and Summer 2017, depending on the site of the work and coordination with the larger construction project.

Partial Closure of Rideau River Multi-Use Pathway behind Ottawa U

A section of the Rideau River multi-use pathway behind the Ottawa U campus on Lees Avenue is closed until further notice due to light rail construction. View a map of the affected area and suggested detours.

Queen's Project on Animating the Rideau Canal

Urban planning students from Queen's University recently gave a presentation to city staff on development ideas for the Rideau Canal. The presentation included numerous innovative ideas for developing the canal throughout Ottawa East. The complete presentation is available here (Warning: attachment is 22MB).

Open House on Lees Avenue Reconstruction

Earlier this month, the City of Ottawa held an open house regarding the proposed reconstruction of Lees Avenue (from Main to Chestnut). View the map of the proposed redesign that was presented at the meeting. The proposed reconstruction involves the reconstruction of the street surface components, including a new roadway, cycling provisions, sidewalks, parking arrangement, and landscaping. The project includes the provision of an eastbound bike lane along the south curb line, and the elimination of on-street parking in that location.
