The Old Ottawa East Community Association (OOECA) has initiated an appeal of a City of Ottawa planning decision that would allow the developer to construct several buildings taller than originally defined by the Secondary Plan at 10 Oblats Avenue. The current zoning allows for a maximum of six storeys, and the developer has been granted nine storeys. The community must raise at least $20,000 to have a successful appeal, as these funds would allow the community to pay for legal and planning professionals. The OOECA has created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds.

The Old Ottawa East Community Association (OOECA) will be hosting a special general meeting on Tuesday, August 27, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The meeting is being held to seek authorization for the expenditure of up to $5000 of community association funds to support the appeals that have been launched by the OOECA to the recent City of Ottawa decisions for the 10 des Oblats property, i.e., Official Plan Amendment 228 (By-law 2019-257) and Zoning By-law 2019-258. The meeting will be held at Old Town Hall, 61 Main Street. All are invited to attend.

The contract to repair a portion of the Rideau Canal walls along Colonel By Drive at Clegg Street is now out to tender. Work is scheduled to begin in fall 2019 and will focus on the top portion of the canal wall, as well as the eastern pathway. A pedestrian/cyclist detour route will be in place during the work, and intermittent traffic interruptions and single lane closures are also expected. This project is expected to be completed in spring 2020.

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services Department (RCFS) is working with Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) on an initiative to further enhance Aberdeen Square at Lansdowne Park to host community and special event programming. RCFS and OSEG are consulting with the public and interested stakeholders on ideas for year-round programming and physical improvements to the square through a survey found here. The survey will be active July 17 to July 31, 2019.

Members of the community are invited to attend a celebration in honour of the opening of the new Flora Bridge on July 20 at 4:00 pm. The Old Ottawa East Community Association will be co-hosting the event along with our sister community associations in the Glebe and Old Ottawa South.
