On Tuesday, April 2, a section of Colonel By Drive, between Daly Avenue and Main Street, will be temporarily closed to motorists from 9:30 to 11 a.m. During the closure, motorists are asked to use Queen Elizabeth Drive.

The City of Ottawa has changed the ramp design that will allow barrier-free access to Old Town Hall according to the input received from the OECA and CAG. Click to view the revised design.

City of Ottawa staff made a presentation at the March 12th OECA meeting regarding the planning department’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) studies. The TODs will focus on select stops along the Transitway/light rail transit corridor, including the Lees Avenue station. View the city’s presentation. City staff will be invited back to an OECA meeting to provide an update (likely in June 2013).”

City staff have advised the OECA that the OLRT Confederation Line Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Ottawa and the University of Ottawa has been amended and the replacement parking lot is no longer proposed at 160 Lees Avenue. The new proposed location is 193 Lees Avenue, a city owned property (an untravelled road allowance) adjacent to 200 Lees Avenue (part of the university's Lees Campus).

City staff kindly met with OOECA and CAG representatives and with Christine Honsl - an OOE resident who uses a chair for mobility - to review proposed plans for a ramp that would provide access from ground level to the first floor of the Old Town Hall (OOE's community centre).

The community welcomes the city initiative to restore access to the first floor, something that has been lacking because of the malfunctioning of the old elevator. However, it is also worth noting that both this elevator and a proposed ramp still will not allow access to the second floor of the Old Town Hall. We recognize the budgetary constraints that have led to the city's not addressing this longstanding problem but want to ensure that at some point this lack of second floor access be fixed.
